New Painting

Back to painting. This actually started out as a study for a series of paintings I want to do called "The Bombists". I think I tried to fit too much in to a 3 x 3 inch piece. It's on copper.

Illustration Run Over?

This may be my last illustration for awhile as I have multiple shows to get ready for. My students just got me going and I couldn't stop. So unless someone needs me for a high profile illustration job I end this streak with The Pious Sex Addict. An article about a conflicted woman.

ImagineFX

Guess I should post this. ImaginefX, the great digital art magazine from the UK, did a spot on me in their traditional section. Never thought I'd be in this magazine. Pretty darn cool.

Sketchbook Family Fun

Just some more fun for the whole family. You too can have some sketchbook fun. Simply go out and buy your Bill Carman sketchbook family fun software and push the sketch like Bill button and, voila! Seriously, keep on sketching.

Spectrum 17 Juror

I have the honor of being a juror for the upcoming Spectrum 17 Annual of Fantastic Art. Spectrum is one of those wonderful stories of something that started small and continued to grow every year, not only in size and scope but in quality, to become the premier annual showcase of its genre. Those who know me know I am a book whore. Spectrum is one of those for which I do a book dance of joy when it arrives in the mail. The great thing about it is that I continue to read and study the pictures for years after that initial imagery binge. So get your bribes ready 'cause I'm on my way to Kansas in February.

...And continuing my illustration streak. I re-worked and adjusted color on this older drawing to use for a secret project. Sure seems like I have a lot of those, you secret projects.

Another Illustration

I'm on an illustration tear. Although most know me from my paintings illustration has always been a great love. In fact I enjoy teaching illustration more than painting. There is just something about having an external problem to solve and going through that process which is generally a lot different than what I go through with my personal work. This particular piece is in response to a discussion we had in class about cliches and whether or not to use them. Cliches are cliches because we overuse them. They are therefore very recognizable and familiar. Of course they can be abused and misused like anything else but if they are embraced we can personalize them and make them our own. I don't usually go out of my way to embrace cliches but in this case I did it for my guys. Using the big guy in a little house has definitely been done before but I put a twist on it to fit an article about men who develop a fear of going out resulting from erectile disfunction. So for my class here is big guy in little house cliche with my twist and the preliminary sketch.

Illustration

Something a little different. Now and then when I do an illustration I like to do a little digital work to finish it. Does he love animals, or is it just a job? Digital or traditional, I just love doing this stuff.

Demo and Sketches

It's been a week so I thought I'd post a few things. First is a demonstration I did for illustration class. I promised the guys that I would post this. The rest are sketchbook things. More glimpses in to my unbalanced mind. I guess the big news is that I will be selling prints soon. I will need to sell at least three or I'll close up shop forever. Seriously I hope there is some interest out there. Check back if you are interested or even if you are not. And of course thanks for always coming back.

More Copper

I scanned this at home so I don't have much confidence in how it will post. Comment if it sucks really bad on your computer. When I get to my office on Monday I'll re-scan and do it right. Just wanted to keep up the illusion that I'm not lazy.

Here is the re-post. I also made this one a little larger if you click on it. You can see some brushwork. The brush does it all. I'm just a long for the ride.
