Old Stuff

Because Christmas kicked my butt I have done nothing except more drawings. But I thought until I finished a new painting, which might be awhile since I am currently working on a book cover and don't know when I'll be able to post it, I might share an older drawing now and then in the mix. Maybe it will give a little perspective on my history, maybe not, but it might be fun for me. I did it when I started this blog so I am resurrecting it now.

You know I am painting. In fact I am working on a book cover right now, among other things, that I really can't show you all. So for now you just have to be happy with the little things like this that I draw to keep sane. Stop complaining.

Muddy Colors Guest Post

Super Turkey 2010 and SketchBookery

I can't believe I let a whole week get away without posting. Shame. To sort of make up for it I'm doing two posts. I forgot to post the latest Super Turkey, for our local weekly paper, so I'm showing the drawing and the colored finish. Yeah I like the line drawing better too. Haven't done a sketchbook post in awhile so I've included that too. Man, my sketchbooks sure do jump all over. Keep sketching guys.

Secret Sketches

I do a lot of studies for projects. These are a couple done, on antique paper, for a cover project I am working. One is going to the art director as a gift. i wonder which one he'll choose. I think I can show you these cause this idea was not chosen.

Favorite Things

I've been invited to be in a show at Gallery Nucleus called "My Favorite Things". I know I don't have time for this but sometimes it is hard to say no. Anyway this is 2.5 x 2.5 inches on copper. It'll be part of an ongoing series about narwhal rain. This is narwhal rain fashion. Faux antique narwhalrain rainwear is all the rage.

Society of Illustrators 53

Always great to get the nod from the Society of Illustrators NY. These three pieces will be in their Illustrators 53 annual. Even more exciting is when a former student gets in. Check out Tony Montano's "Cheryl". Congrats Tony.

Lesser of Three

After all that here is the final version of "Lesser of Three" with several process shots. I'm still debating whether to go with the blue bubble window or clear. What do you think?

Wow, time gets away from me especially when I'm busy. Here is another drawing. I'm working on another painting and don't know whether to wait until it's finished to post or give in progress teasers again. Let me know what you think.

Illustration Continues

You might recognize these images from a series of drawings about things I saw. I'm continuing the illustration theme and thinking of entering these in a competition as a series. I really like doing stuff like this. Illustration can feed my painting and vice versa.

Fell Asleep

Wow, fell asleep on my blog for a little while. I will never let that happen again, probably. Got sick, you know all of that life stuff. I love illustration. With all of the gallery work I am doing I don't want to lose touch with illustration. This is the start of a series of NY things. I'm going for a visit next year and am pretty excited. Maybe the editor of The New Yorker will see this and put it on the cover.

Spectrum 18 Poster

OK, here it is. Maybe a little underwhelming after all that build up but hey someone will like it. I've also included a few process shots for the really curious. If you really want to be blown away check out the list of jurors for Spectrum 18. It's going to be a barnburner of a time. Wish I were going to be there.
