New Alice Underway
Thought I'd put this up. I'm trying to finish this for the Alice show but I'm leaving tomorrow for five days. So here is my third Alice offering in progress. I'll finish it next weekend when I get back. The reason for leaving town is a cool show I'm doing with a friend in Portland. We will be spending four days in the gallery at Clackamas College painting for an opening on Thursday night. Hopefully I will be posting pics here of our progress and gallery frolicking. There will also be a video at the end with interviews and candid shots, etc.. So check in now and then for updates.

Hatter 4
I'm posting this because I love you. I am diddling with this piece too much. Adding and subtracting, then adding and subtracting some more. I was also interrupted with an emergency piece over the weekend. I will finish this in the next day or two or die trying. It really only needs a few things unless I start doing my adding and subtracting thing again. Guess I'll lose money on this painting but if I were in it for the money I would be doing someone's taxes right now.

Not Sure
I'm not really sure if this will work or if it's even worth doing but I am going to try and post progress shots of this painting for the Alice in Wonderland show as I go. Usually I post the finished piece with the progress shots but we'll try it this way to see what happens. I feel a little naked showing all of my marks, snots and goobers as I go but this is an important part of my process. The bad brushstrokes and "mistakes" all tell me something and could lead to beautiful passages which would otherwise stay hidden were I more careful. Anyway, this doesn't work quite as well when I'm under a tight deadline but there is nothing more enjoyable for me than this kind of dialogue with a painting.

Brownstones to Red Dirt
I was honored to be invited to take part in a great project called Brownstones to Red Dirt. In short it connects kids from different parts of the world to be pen pals. Check out the site and the blog where post cards done by an impressive list of artists are posted. Here is my humble offering.

Tweedles
Sorry for the length between posts. First week of school kinda took something out of me. This painting is for another show at Gallery Nucleus.
It's an Alice in Wonderland tribute that opens February 27th. How could I say no to that? The title is "Dude, What are You Wearing?" and it's 5x7 inches acrylic on copper. I will also do one or two more.

Narwhal Rain (the painting)
The painting the world has been waiting for. Well maybe not the world. This is for a show, at the Society of Illustrators Museum of Illustration NY, called Earth: Fragile Planet. It was an honor being invited to exhibit. The show is not for awhile but I finished early in order to move on to other things. It is 12x16 inches acrylic on panel.

Boise (Journal)
For you Boiseans the Boise (formerly Boise Journal) magazine did a great article about me. Erin Ryan wrote it and did a fantastic job. Kinda cool. The cover was a nice surprise. I've posted all of the artwork included here on my blog at some point but I can post the text if someone wants to read it. By the way the magazine is available at most places that sell magazines.

Air Bear
The final piece for the Airships show at Gallery Nucleus. I wanted to do something a little looser, different. It should be a great show with some great artists. Even I can't ruin this line-up.

Airships
OK, back to some new painting. This is one of a few paintings I'm doing for an Airship show at Gallery Nucleus in January. I'm sorry there is only one progress shot but things are pretty busy here.

Old Stuff
Occasionally I have people ask me, "do you remember the such and such painting?" Well this is in honor of them. I will make a conscious effort, I used to do it at the beginning of my blog life, to post older work now an then. This was a popular series at the gallery. Acrylic and mixed on old book covers. By the way this is an opportunity to say thanks to Perry Allen the former owner of the Basement Gallery with whom I have exhibited these past ten years. He has sold the business to Jane Brumfield, a wonderful Brit. I will continue to have a relationship with the gallery and also with her gallery in England, The Weekend Gallery. Good times in Hawaii Perry!

Cold and Cthulhu Season
Tor.com is doing a Lovecraft/Cthulhu celebration. I thought I would tie it in with my ledger stuff. I kinda feel like this too.
