Another New Drawing

If I tried  hard I could probably post one a day. Good thing I'm lazy.

New Drawing

For those of you in the Boise area, I will be having a show at the Brumfield Gallery (formerly Basement Gallery) in Hyde Park in March. There will be some high-end paintings but most of the exhibition will be drawings in the more affordable range. This is one such drawing. About 3.3 x 3.5 inches on paper.

OcTOPLASTY

Just finished new painting. Sometimes I feel like my voice slips away a little. I need apiece like this to bring it back. Cosmetic surgery seems to be a recurring theme for me.

New Quick Narratives

Partially as exercise, breaking in new stuff, and partially as show material, new local show coming up, and partially as trying something new I am doing some things based on random reference. It's a fun exercise that I never get to try because of time but these will work well for an upcoming show here. A little more based on reference than my usual work but always with something. . .

Long Painted Journey

This has been an epic painting. "Tangled Lances" was done for Artifact Puzzles, the same company that did the "Narwhal Rain" puzzle. Stay tuned and I will let you know when the puzzle is available. I included a few process shots for you die hards. Obviously this took the Flemish, Northern Renaissance route. Just wish I could paint like those guys.

New Drawing

Just a new drawing from a series of animal self-defense ideas. Painting is coming. Almost done.

Field of Fire

This is me just trying to get better. Another sketchbook thing made into an illustration. I built this from an autobiographical story. My brother was something of a pyromaniac when we were young. He burned down a few things. I remember walking away from one of our lizard hunting fields and all of a sudden when I looked back the field burst into flames. We ran. My bro swore he didn't know what happened.

Things Between Paintings

Once in awhile as I work on paintings I'll take something from the sketchbook and make a little illustration out of it. Since it's been a week since my last post I thought I'd show you all one of these that I particularly like.

Idaho Watchable Wildlife

As I look at my recent posts there seems to be a divergence from the norm. Not that I really have a norm. But fear not, some new paintings are on the very horizon. in the meantime I have just been working on a few fun projects. This one is a poster for Idaho's watchable wildlife. They haven't decided on a final yet but here are a few of the many possibilities I sent. Actually the first one, and possibly my favorite, is new but I don't think they want a bleed. So probably it will be a version of the last one.

On another note, the reason for sporadic posting involves trying to make things like Facebook work for me. I changed over to the new page thingy and am having hellish night mares. Just when I was getting a handle on how things work I change over and have to start at less then scratch. I'm failing badly. My Facebook Page or is it Page?

Batman Has Issues Too

Doing superhero drawings is like eating pistachios. You can't eat/draw just one. I beg your forgiveness for this.

Superhero

Ever since the Batgirl painting I've wanted to do some more superhero stuff. So I give you a Hulk drawing. I'm sure the comic book bigwigs will come a callin'.

NPR Calendar

Here's an illustration I did for an upcoming NPR calendar. National Public Radio has been a part of my listening life for a long time. It's an honor to be among a list of artists and illustrators who have been a part of this project year after year. I'll let you know when they go up for sale.

Revival

As I finish a couple of illustrations which I can't post yet I thought about posting older pieces which I am thinking should be completed. Sometimes it happens that I stop in the middle of a painting because of time, deadlines, or other issues. I'll return later only to think, "Hey this one isn't so bad."

That's the case with this piece. Part of a story which has yet to be completed, this painting is about a little guy who steals color. Do you think it's worth finishing?

For My Guys

Told you guys I'd finish this right away. I knew that face was begging for something greater. Another speedy experiment.

And Experiments Continue

You can beg all you want but I won't stop my experimental flops. I actually think this might make a cool illustration.

All You Animated Movie Producers

I am not merely a passable painter but a closet character designer. How could one possibly resist hiring me? The pug is screaming out for a role in a movie.

If You Remove the Glasses the Demons Will Fade

I have not been able to sit at my table and paint. Creeping cruds with fever. But I could do short bouts reclining and drawing. Yeah even when I am at death's door I have to work. It's just so much fun. So anyway which do you prefer the original, top, or with slight value changes, bottom. Randy I promise I'll get back to your painting as soon as I can sit up for more than 5 minutes at a time.

What?

I am working a some pretty intense paintings and when I do that I usually have a few drawings going at the same time to keep me sane. Here is one I just finished on some old photo mounting paper.
