This is a series on wood. They're about a race I think. It's just fun to paint on malleable surface like wood as a diversion from rigid surfaces like copper.
This is a wonderful piece, Bill! A typical Carman – funny, lucid, and very tastefully done. It would be great to have one of your little paintings, like this one, in my collection (perhaps when I get richer than I am now). As soon as I finish the commission I am wrestling with at the moment, and start breathing again, I will email you…
Chris-Only a little. It's really fun and satisfying but a little too time consuming right now. Someday I might find a collaboration that would work.
Rick-It's just a wonderfully permanent unforgiving surface. At first I saw some work in a museum and then when I experimented it was such a great challenge that taming the beast gave me a great thrill. Now I just like it although it's not necessarily my primary choice of surface.
Petar-I certainly understand the busy. We can always talk about a small trade in the future of course. Thanks and don't stop breathing please.
Bill - a small trade would be a perfect option. Although, I also like to buy work from my colleagues, whenever I am able to. It pleases me because I know it is a necessary bit of support for the artist. We'll talk about it in the future, Bill. Thanks!
You Never cease to totally Amaze !! Just Magnificent! If I may ~ What size is this & How long did it take you since it's on wood? Un fricken bee leave able : )
Thanks James. This is about 6x6 inches. I painted it in a day and a half. I'm not sure how many hours. I work on other things like drawings and writing so maybe 6-8 hours of work.
Did you use gesso or prime this at all? When I did the one on wood that I sent you i didn't prime it at all. Yours looks brighter. (although I wanted the wood grain to show through)
I really like this. I laugh because I can imagine this in an animation and how funny it would look to watch it move!
I know what you mean Bill, it's fun to paint on different surfaces. This one is really great! I'm now trying to paint on slate which I found in bretagne in France where we were on vacation two weeks ago. Bye greetz Peet
Really cool! Have you delved much in sculpture? This one one make an awesome piece. Chris
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteAs far as painting on copper, may I ask why you choose copper, primarily?

Yes gesso but not as many layers as usual.
